Target has a longstanding commitment to our hometown of Minneapolis, where our global headquarters has been located for more than 60 years. We are dedicated to celebrating downtown and responding to its emergent needs, investing in transformational philanthropy with a focus on accelerating opportunity and equity, and collaborating with team members and community members in neighborhoods that our teams call home. The Minneapolis Downtown Council’s “Summer’s Better Downtown” campaign is an extension of that commitment and our efforts to support a strong community.
The schedule includes more than 1,800 events through September, such as live music, games, food trucks, celebrity appearances and giveaways. More information on the “Summer’s Better Downtown” campaign can be found here.
For our more than 15,000 team members who live or work in Minneapolis, the “Summer’s Better Downtown” campaign provides an opportunity to connect with friends and neighbors in the city. As downtown Minneapolis’s largest employer, our office spaces play a big part in facilitating work, team member experience and collaboration, and connecting to our surrounding communities. Target celebrates the magic that comes from gathering together to collaborate, connect and make a positive impact.
About our hometown support
- Through the Target Foundation programs such as our Hometown Foundation Grants, we support local organizations in four core areas including entrepreneurship and small business, workforce development, housing and asset building.
- In 2022, our teams volunteered more than 82,000 hours in the Twin Cities.
- During the pandemic, Target committed $1 million to the Mpls Downtown Small Business Grant Program, designed to help small and independently owned businesses in the downtown area.
- We’ve supported the Avivo Village project with a $225,000 donation. The village is the first indoor, tiny-house community of its kind created to help address unsheltered homelessness in Minneapolis and Hennepin County.
Quote from Amanda Nusz, senior vice president of corporate responsibility and president of the Target Foundation:
“For Target, Minneapolis is not only home to our headquarters, it’s also a community where so many of our team members live. We have immense pride in our city and are proud to partner with the Minneapolis Downtown Council on this initiative to celebrate and support the things that make it a great place to live, work and shop.”
