  • Students  participate  in competitions like green tech science-model making, film making, poster making, and also case studies on innovation and entrepreneurial mindsets

Commemorating National Energy Conservation Day today, Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, reinforced its commitment towards a sustainable future with Club Enerji Urja Mela 2022, a nationwide platform designed to engage with young energy champions.

The Mela took place in Delhi today, with students actively taking part in competitions like green tech science-model making, film making, poster making and also case studies on innovation and entrepreneurial mindsets. The engagements were designed to mould young climate action leaders, who will act as change agents in their communities giving momentum to the larger climate actions. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 500 students from about 100 government and private schools from Tata Power’s business geographies including Delhi, Punjab, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Jharkhand, and Gujarat, participating in competitions and activities.

Urja Mela’s theme for this year was “Sustainable is Attainable” in alignment with Tata Power’s overall conservation mission to popularise the use of green and clean energy in the nation and propagate a sustainable lifestyle as “attainable” for millions of Indians by giving them the power to change through widespread adoption of green products and solutions.

Urja Mela was organized as part of Club Enerji. The Club has emerged as a successful call to action in an effort to educate schoolchildren about conserving the environment, combating climate change, reducing air pollution, and promoting renewable energy. Club Enerji educates and creates awareness among youth about the importance of environment and energy conservation through conservation tips, workshops, and regular sessions on related topics in a unique and engaging manner. The initiative highlights Tata Power’s sustained efforts towards the promotion of clean energy, aiming to power a green movement for a new India during ‘Amrit Kaal’ and  is a critical step in the company’s sustainability journey to becoming carbon net-zero before 2045, contributing to India’s climate agenda.

Dr. Chintan Vaishnav, Mission Director – Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Aayog was the chief guest at the event. Also present at the event was Mr. Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO, Tata Power Delhi Distribution.

Speaking about Tata Power’s conservation initiatives Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power said, “Tata Power takes pride in steering the ‘Sustainable is Attainable’ mission, leading the way to India’s green energy transition. Club Enerji is an important step in this direction since we believe children have the power to create a progressive nation, and Urja Mela 2022 was successful in bringing together the young change-makers from all over the country, who will now lead the movement.”

Addressing the students and teachers during the Mela, Dr. Chintan Vaishnav, Mission Director – Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Aayog said, “With the rising climate concerns, conversations on clean energy adoption and conservation are taking center stage. Today we see the best talent disrupting the climate domain since it offers tremendous opportunities to innovate. It was interesting to interact with the students at Tata Power Urja Mela and its great to see the focus on STEM education for society.”

In accordance with its ambitious clean energy strategy, the company strives to propagate awareness about various ways to save energy and improve efficiency and the Club Enerji programme has been one of the key drivers of Tata Power’s vision of building a sustainable future. Engagement of the younger generation to address environmental issues is necessary to bring societal and behavioral change in energy consumption and conservation of natural resources at an early age.

To further promote the inclusive growth of society, Tata Power has also been supporting children with Autism through its Pay AUTENTION initiative, which is India’s first phygital Autism Support Network. A special street play act in association with Beartsy Foundation was performed at the Mela to raise awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and to help the youth understand, accept and support individuals with Autism and their parents and caregivers.

Club Enerji, an award-winning initiative of Tata Power was launched in 2004 and was later adopted in all other operational areas of the company.
