  • Ground breaking ceremony held at company’s Parel receiving station
  • To install 10 more submersible substations by 2025 in its licenced area

Tata Power, one of India’s largest Integrated power companies and a pioneering electricity supplier in Mumbai, announced the setting up of an innovative submersible power substation in South Mumbai to augment the power infrastructure in its operational area. Occupying virtually zero space, this underground substation will be a first-of-its-kind submersible substation installed by any power distribution utility in the country.

The ground breaking ceremony of this innovative 400KVA sub-station was performed by Mr. Ashok Kanse, Electrical Inspector, Mumbai Region at Tata Power’s Parel receiving station. Also present were Mr. Nilesh Kane, Chief, Tata Power Mumbai Distribution, and other senior officials of the company. The sub-station will be installed in the parking area of the Parel Receiving Station and will support power demand load of high-rise infrastructure in the adjoining areas and ensure a continuous and reliable power supply to consumers during exigencies, including floods and storms.

The substation will have specially designed 22kV submersible duty three-way Ring Man Unit, 22kV/433V 400KVA Transformer with accessories suitable for submerged operations. All terminations of the substation will also be suitable to work under submersion and will have touch proof design technology. The installation will be in compliance with Central Electricity Authority’s safety regulations.

This novel design of the substation will not only help in improvising the aesthetics of the premises, but will also offers an innovative solution to distribution utilities and infrastructure developers to utilise their land optimally, especially in congested areas and land starved metro cities across the country.
