~ Ambulance and school bus to benefit around 40 villages~
Umrangso, Assam, October 29, 2022: Continuing its efforts towards community welfare, Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. (DCBL), has provided an ambulance to the local Community Health Centre (CHC) of Umrangso, Dima Hasao district of Assam and a school bus for the community. The handover of these essential services occasion was made memorable by the presence of Shri Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member (CEM), North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council at Umrangso on 29th October 2022. Smt. Ranu Langthasa, Chairperson, North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Shri Joysing Durong, Member Autonomous Council, Village Heads, Village Development Council Members, Shri Padmanav Chakravarty, Regional Manufacturing Head- DCBL, local students body leaders, NGO representatives and officials of DCBL also graced the occasion.
Calcom Cements, a subsidiary of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. has been working with the community and local authorities to facilitate access to healthcare and education. These are not just basic but also critical life needs, especially in remote villages. The emergency-equipped ambulance service will give locals across neighboring 40 villages under Umrangso Sub-Division, critical and life-saving access to larger healthcare facilities in Haflong, Lanka, Hojai, Nagaon, Jorhat, Guwahati and Shillong. On the other hand, the strengthened fleet of school buses will facilitate convenience and connectivity to students across 10 villages in continuing their education. The company will continue to remain invested in this initiative by taking on the operation and maintenance of the school buses as well.
Sh. Debolal Garlosa, Chief Executive Member (CEM), North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council present on the occasion commented, “Today is a good day, we thank Dalmia Bharat Cement for donating the ambulance which is needed for elderly care and the school bus for the children. We will continue to look forward to their contributions.”
Shri Padmanav Chakravarty, Regional Manufacturing Head, DCBL said, “Our range of initiatives for the region include creating rural infrastructure development, skill development, livelihood initiatives and climate action. These have been continuing for around a decade. The ambulance and school busses were much needed interventions. We will regularly continue to identify and fulfill such needs as a part of our local collaborations and increasing dedication to the region.”
Initiatives like toilet blocks in schools and villages, Smart class equipment installation at school, construction of a sports gallery, construction of community halls at different villages, plantation at schools along with infrastructure development, supply of RO to all nearby schools, Ring Well construction at nearby villages, water tank construction etc. have received appreciation. The company is also focusing on skill training for farmers, women and youth. Various livelihood initiatives such as orchard development for 500 farmers have also been taken up by DCBL & DBF over the years.
The company is also regularly providing scholarships to meritorious students for their higher study.
