Udaipur, 12th May 2023 – Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company in the zinc-lead-silver business, was presented with the prestigious CII-ITC Sustainability Award 2022. Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter received the award for ‘Outstanding Accomplishment in Corporate Excellence’ and Zinc Smelter Debari received the award for ‘Excellence in Environment Management’. The award was felicitated to the company by Chief Guest, Shri. Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.

The CII-ITC Sustainability Awards aim to recognise and reward excellence in companies that are working towards enhancing sustainability and inclusivity in their operations. The award is layered around 16 aspects and 250 indicators that cover governance, ecology, biodiversity, and social dimensions of doing business. This year, 79 applicants underwent a rigorous evaluation process that includes on-site assessment by a peer team of CII-certified sustainability assessors and the winners were validated by a pre-eminent jury comprising leaders from government, civil society, and academia. This award is a recognition of Hindustan Zinc’s continued efforts to integrate sustainability as a core business value and commitment to shaping a future that is more sustainable and inclusive.
Recently, Hindustan Zinc has earned a spot in the esteemed S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for the 6th time by being ranked amongst the top 5% ESG Score in the metals & mining sector. The company’s sustainability efforts have also resulted them to be ranked 3rd Globally and 1st in Asia Pacific Region in S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment under metal & mining sector.
